Sauk Mountain Lavender Farm
Growing Good Health
For Seattle-ite Computer Manager Julie Erickson, a move to the northern Cascade Mountains gave birth to a more rewarding life: cultivating medicinal herbs and creating organic herbal products to help others.
From the moment Julie settled with her husband and two children at the base of Sauk Mountain, an organic farm in the austere mountainous country northeast of Seattle, she felt inspired. Attracted by the vigor of the countryside, she yearned to put their land to use to benefit others. But how? She wondered. After praying for guidance, she decided: She would grow and produce organic herbal products.
Gardening organically, she shuns chemicals, relying instead on a generous dose of homemade compost each spring and enriching the bare unplanted earth with organic chicken manure in the fall. The only irrigation comes from the pure water in the well and rainfall, and annual crops are rotated each year to keep pests to a minimum and maintain the earth’s fertility.
Julie now sells products worldwide that are produced on their little lavender farm in the mountains.

Although passionate about all aspects of her business, Julie enjoys gathering the leaves and flowers most. “I get joy from looking at the plants, listening to their song. When I pick, I touch them; I’m surrounded by fragrance. They represent the culmination of all the love and work that has gone into the growing process. Best of all, I know the plants will be used to help others.”
